Optimal Vegas Settings for AMD X2 System

I picked up a new mobo and AMD X2 4200 chip and have 2 GIG ram.

What is the opitmal setting within Vegas for the dual core AMD systems?

The default number of video threads is 4. I set this to 1 with the previous AMD 64 3,000 system since the forum results seemed to substantiate that it was faster than 4 with a single core AMD system.

Any test results for dual core?

I loaded Vegas on a similar system , think its a 4800, didnt change any settings at all and it blew me away,, lightning fast.

I'm sure someone can give a real answer, but I think you will be real happy !

You can review this thread and link to my testing of settings. I'm sure your new system will blow away my P4 3.2Ghz.

The main point I found was that the Dynamic Ram Preview had a degrading effect when set >0 and <128. I also tested the threads, but while I didn't do other things on my machine while the rendering was occurring, I noticed minimal difference. If you do other processing while rendering, then set it to 1 less that the number of procs/cores you have and see if that makes a difference.

fldave,

Thanks. I'm sure it will outdoo a single processor (it is MUCH faster than my previous AMD 3000). I'm just trying to see if anyone knows the best setting for the multiple processor option. Default is 4, even with a single processor. Anyone done a test or know how the program is optimized?

My confusion, as a programmer, is that "threads" do not equal "processors/cores". I can't tell you what a Vegas "Thread" means. Dual CPU each with 2 cores = 4 processors. Single Intel CPU with Hyperthreading = 2.

The suggestion from the software is that if you want to do something else while rendering, then set this value to one less than the number of processors/cores that you have. I exhibited little difference with different values to Threads during my testing when I did nothing else during the rendering.

During my testing with a single core P4 3.2 HT machine, the system showed over 300 Windows threads running. You can do a quick test of a short veg with various settings. Or you can max it out at 4 and see if you can do anything else on the machine at the same time.

Just make sure your Dynamic Ram Preview setting is at 0 or greater than 128.
