option to play video before sub menu(s)?

jason-duncan wrote on 12/28/2023, 7:21 PM

Hello,

Does DVD-A (7.0 build 100) have the option to auto-play a video before each sub menu page?

Sort-of like the Set Start Disc option, but not when the disc first plays. I'd like this video to start every time you select an item from the sub menu(s).

I've played around with End Action, moving this file around the Project Properties window, searched here in the forum. I can't figure it out.

Any help is much apricated.

@jason-duncan

Do you want to play the same video for each sub-menu, or is the video unique in each one? There are a few ways to do it.

Yes, I'd like to play the same video for each sub menu.

@jason-duncan

It did not take as long as I thought it would. see if this helps

You can also do this with DVDA scripts, but if you don't know them, this is easier.

(in the video I say "5 buttons" but there are only 4. My bad)

DMT3 thank you for taking the time to make the video, upload, and your explanations. I'm getting closer.

My goal is to have a Set Start video play as you insert the BD (which is working). It then reaches the main menu and you have two buttons. One accesses the edited videos, the other raw footage. I'd like a video to play after you select either button "Videos" and "Raw Footage" but before it reaches the desired sub menu(s).

In Button Properties, Action tab, when I highlight either button (Videos or Raw Footage), Destination is greyed out. I'm guessing this is where I need to change to point to my desired video for both buttons?

Attached is a snapshot of the main menu.

So on your main menu, you would link to the Video that want to play before the subs. Then the END action of that video when be the sub menu. Since you have TWO buttons on the main, you want to have two entries of the Video. (Video1, Video2). Link the second button to video two and the end action of Video Two would be the other submenu. I suggest you don't leave the default to "Most Recent Menu". Set the actions for the specific videos/menus that you want. Let me know if you have more questions.

I added the videos (same video for each sub menu) to the Project Properties (see attached picture). I still can't access Destination when I click on each button (Videos & Raw Footage), but I can access Destination when I click on the large blue "menu" button. I don't want a button on the main menu for this video, but I know I can delete the text and shrink the size of the box to zero.

I've selected all the menu options in the Destination dropdown; none link to the sub menu.

Are you sure they are set up as Buttons and not just text. It is hard for me to tell which menu this is, but I don't see any menu on the left with two buttons.

jason-duncan wrote on 12/29/2023, 7:18 PM

On the main menu, the two blue "Menu" buttons are the videos I want to play after you select either "Videos" or "Raw Footage". There are the two new videos in Project Properties labeled "clip for Videos" and "clip for Raw Footage". I was hoping they wouldn't be a visible button, but I think I can delete the text and shrink the box if need be. When I highlight the Videos and Raw Footage buttons I can choose which Destination Button, but these videos ("Menu") do not appear in the dropdown.

In the main menu, when the highlight is on either button (Videos or Raw Footage) if I push the Up button on the virtual remote, it then plays the video(s). They will not auto-play.

I am sorry, I probably can't offer much more unless I can see some video of the screen as you navigate. You don't want to shrink the box to make it invisible, this will limit your hot area. You can change the color set to all transparent.

I'm thinking once everything is working correctly, these two blue menu boxes won't appear on the main menu, and I won't have to shrink them. I have no idea how to show a video of me navigating through the virtual menus. So far, the only way the video plays is when I'm highlighted over one of the two buttons (Videos or Raw Footage) and I manually push the "up" button on the virtual remote.

I am still not sure what you are doing but good luck.

jason-duncan wrote on 12/31/2023, 9:03 AM

Thanks for the help DMT3. I'm thinking DVD-A doesn't have the option to play this video where I want to play automatically; only if I manually select it. Maybe a more advanced disc building/menu program might.

@jason-duncan

If you are wanting to go to a link when you land on a button rather than have to hit PLAY or UP, there is an auto-activate option. It is the last selection on ACTION. If you want to buttons that auto activate, you also need a 3rd button which does nothing. It could be invisible but you need to set DVDA to set the DESTINATION button to the invisible button when you navigate to the menu. Then you select one of the buttons with auto-activate and it will link to upon selection. Is that what you are trying to do?

jason-duncan wrote on 12/31/2023, 1:13 PM

I want the video to play when I push Enter on either button from the main menu. So if I push enter on "Videos", it will play the short video before reaching the sub menu which has the videos. If I push enter for "Raw Videos" same thing. I did see the auto-activate option a few days ago and have tried different combinations, but so far no-go.I haven't tried the third button yet as you just suggested.

When I added the video I want to auto-play to Project Properties, that's when the new large blue "Menu" buttons appeared in the main menu. I would think this would be this "third button" you just mentioned.

I'm trying more combinations as we speak. Thanks for still working with me.

Update: I moved the two identical videos (labeled as "Menu"). They each now appear in the proper sub-menu. From the main menu, when I push Enter on either button (Videos and Raw Footage) it takes me to the desired sub menu page, and the Menu button is highlight, as-in this it's the first button available to be selected. It doesn't auto-play, even though I have Auto-active selected.

Attached are snap shots of the two sub menus after you select "Videos" and "Raw Footage". This large blue "Menu" button is the video I want to auto-play without having a button to select.

I guess I am still confused. Sorry. I showed you how to play a video first before going to another menu. I think what you are describing is not really what you are trying to do. I think you want the video to be part of the menu, not a separate video. But like I said, I am confused so I don't think I can offer anymore.

Hi DMT3. I finally figured it out. I wasn't creating an Empty Button, which wouldn't allow me to point to the desired auto-play video(s). I re-watched your video a few more times and picked up other stuff as well. Thanks again for your help.

DMT3 wrote on 1/2/2024, 12:39 PM

I am glad you were able to work it out and my video helped some. I was concerned that your buttons were not "buttons" and that seems to have been the case. Enjoy and if you have other questions, I hope I can help.
