Options "Prefernces" And "Capture Cards&quot

are capture cards only used for live recording to your computer?

for example: gaming, u-stream, google chats and etc.

or can it help me with video preview playback quality and can I use it to import video from my camera to get a cleaner file?. I was going through Preferences and wasn't sure about some of the options in "VIDEO" (video preview display) and "PREVIEW DEVICE" and was wondering what are some of the benefits. I understand most of the video option stuff but video preview display I'm not sure what it's for and does it help me in my production and how. most of the time I'm editing music videos, vlogs and now I want to edit indie films.

I'm not a novice at some of these things and I'm not afraid to ask my SONY VEGAS FAMILY FOR HELP. so if you have any information please throw me a bone or two. tutorials a plus.

generally capture video cards for Vegas are meant for firewire transport from device (read that camera head) to computer.
A different kind of card, is the Black Magic Design Intensity Card, which is both a capture card and a preview device card. BUT capture is from HDMI or analogue component, the card is very problematic, and has not been designed any different since VegasPro 9 was released years ago. BEWARE.

Streaming or live-wire in strictest terms is not a capture - but a specialized and unusually different kind of tool for livestream. VegasPro would not be the app used strictly speaking for the streaming - that is served by another kind of special app.

so basically capture cards are for streaming and if I was going to get one don't get the black magic one because it's similar to the cameras? so if I did want to better my computer performance which capture/playback card should I get? personally I wouldn't be using it for live streaming.

read my post reply AGAIN. You nearly have restated the opposite. Read slowly.
