Organising files'n'folders.

I've just finished my cousin's wedding video. I had put all files (veg, jpg, avi, mpg, etc) in one folder. I now would like to move each of the file types into individual folders (VV Project Files, Stills, Renders, TMPGEnc, etc).

Will I lose my projects doing this? Or will VV "find" the Media Pool files used, stills, waves, etc, and keep my project intact?

If you move files, Vegas will ask you for them, or ask you for permission to search for them.

You can test this easily by creating a new project, add a clip and image, save project. Move the clip and image, then open the project again; Vegas will spawn a dialog.

You can move the files, however, I beklieve anything that is on the timeline will have to be "told" where the new file location is.

Try it with one file to see what happens. Be sure to close & then re-open VV3.

Not only do I move files around on my main PC, I move them from PC to PC al the time. VV will inform you if it can't find such and such file. If you know where you put it, just specify the new location and if all your "missing" files are in the same new folder it will ask if it can use that source for the rest of the "missing" ones so in effect if you just move from one folder to another it is a simple couple clicks to find them back. If you spread them out over multiple folders it takes a little longer to specify where they went.
