OT-24P look achievable?

Hi,
Ok I have Vegas 6, Ultimatte S, Gearshift, Magic Bullet..And soon to be buying an HDV camera.. Just soliciting opinions here, hopefully from some others who are actually doing what I am looking to achieve.. I want to know if you can achieve video that has the look of the 24P video produced by the Panasonic DVX100a,, with the Sony FX1?? or do I need to spend the extra bucks and buy the Z1U , and use the Pal 25i mode to get to this look..???(does it compare?)
Yes I know about the new JVC and the upcoming Panasonic cameras.. But I would prefer to support the Sony product line..
Any thoughts??

Take this with a grain of salt. It is from the perspective of someone shooting with an older TRV315 Digital 8 camera. Those with "real" cameras can probably give you better perspective on 24p in Vegas.

All I have to say is that I've been shooting in the wide-screen mode for the last 8 or 10 movies at 60i and converting to 24p, either through Vegas 4 or through processing the AVI in DVFilmMaker.

DVFilmMaker does a great job, but I feel Vegas 6 does a "flawless" job. The 24p video it produces appears to be the same resolution as the original and the look is what I would call seamlessly film-like. It doesn't call attention to itself, except on zoom-ins and outs and then it only looks very film-like, not stuttery like some of the 24p methods I was using.

Combine this with the fast-rendering Celluloid looks by David Jimerson here or the free Magic Bullet plugins (looooong renders), and you can achieve some great-looking video that looks like it was originally shot on film.

I think you can relax if you are acquiring with a F1 and then using Vegas 6 to downconvert.
At the recent NAB, Sony was running side by side comparisons of the downconversions from F1 footage at 60i, 30i and 24p. Each was unique. All were magnificent. It tipped my crusty hand to buy a Z1 (Vegas 6 was a foregone conculsion) -
As the sony rep said, "the 24p definitely had a film look, but the 60i HiDef was like looking through a window". Awesome.

I've been working with the Z1 and really like the Cineframe 24 look it has. I've been doing some tests on various playback stuff - HD CRT's, LCD's & projectors & it seems to look pretty good - has a nice film like cadence to my eye. I was in the doubters camp until I did some tests & it holds up pretty well. The odd thing is how the cadence looks on different monitor types - CRT's tend to look a bit more "juddery" to me but the resolution is fantastic - LCD's and projectors so far look less juddery but not as sharp.

I guess this makes sense because they are downsampling to 720p (I think) & that seems to have a bit of a smoothing effect. The interlaced CRT's have a bit more judder which I would imagine is because of the interlacing but the native resolution of full 1920 by 1080 looks shockingly good. I would love to see a 1080p monitor!

My biggest issue right now is how to color correct for different monitor types. I know the CRT has been the traditional standard but most people are looking at this stuff on projectors or LCD's & my CRT based method is just not working for those.
