I just saw a Panasonic PVGS70 MiniDV Ultra Compact Camcorder advertised on www.videodirectstore.com for $779 including shipping.. This is a 3CCD cam with a 7-element, multi-coated Leica Dicomar lens.. Anyone know anything about this?
They are 1/6" CCDs.
It looks like a bit of clever marketing, what really matters is the size of the actual CCD elements, the bigger each one is the more sensitive it is to light. So if you've got a high res CCD thats 1/6" and bear in mind that 1/4 the area of a 1/3" CCD, I dont see much advantage of it over a 1/3" single CCD camera.
I could be wrong, these things are always getting better but I'd wait for some serious reviews before parting with my money. If you're after that kind of camera the Sony TRV80 seems like a good buy, only single CCD but does most of the same things at around the same price, and it has a 2M pixel CCD.
