The answer is yes. I use them all the time. Panasonic PQ 83 minute tapes.

We use the Panasonic MQ 83's on virtually ALL events we tape - especially if there's ANY chance of it exceeding one hour. They've been reliable for us.

We use the Panasonic as well. No problems here. 80 minute tapes are almost a must at some events.

I've used the Sony 80 min tapes in my VX2000 several times with no problems. I only use them when there is a requirement for continuous taping of greater than an hour.

I have also run 60 minute tapes in LP without problems, but I don't do it except in an emergency. Have not tried the 80 min tapes in LP.

I was advised not to use them because I was told that the tape is thinner which allows more minutes but more dropouts, although by the responses here, the 80min tapes don't sound that bad

For what's it's worth I've had one snap in a deck. Probably if it's made by Panasonic or Sony and handled with due diligence you'll be fine. Using them (or any tape for that matter) in LP is really inviting disaster.

What's with the manufacturer say that we shouldn't use them in our DVX100's?!?!?! said something like it's damaging or something.
