No, not that! I can't stand being constantly reminded of what I DON'T have. SoFo did this with Sound Forge Studio. Try to do something that wasn't in the "light" version of Sound Forge, you get a popup telling you how to purchase Sound Forge. I found this to be infuriating. I did pay for the product after all. So just let me have my limited features and leave me alone. Demos are demos. Programs are programs. That's how I feel about it anyway.

Gentlemen,
I've said this before in a different context, if Sony execs were ever to read some of the posts in this forum do you think it exactly portrays the product's user community in a shining light.

I know we all need to let off steam from time to time, more so in this business than any else but please can we avoid the personal attacks, derision and insults etc.

This is NOT the way to get the corporate honchos to pay attention.

These are not the full versions of either Acid or Vegas.

Have a look at the tables at the bottom of http://www.sonicfoundry.com/news/sony.asp where you can see how their features compare with the full versions.

Sony head honchos never paid much attention to anything other than their corp laywers and how many billions were made last year. Actually this is a great place to post a very telling quote from one of those head honchos. Howard Stringer, CEO and Chairman of Sony America, says: "If you can put the electronic company together with the music company and the games company and the movie company - all content that can be married to Sony networked devices - than you have got a company that cannot be ingnored."

With all the crap going on with MS and AOL/Time Warner this is indeed a scary thought. What would happen if what Sir Howard says comes to be? Would we see SoFo software only works on Sony PC's? Would you only be able to capture and PTT using Sony decks and cameras? Just food for thought.

Okay...I apologize for not doing my homework before posting and for causing such a stir with an OT-speculation / observation. Sorry all- especially Billboy! Take care and thanks for all the opinions!

Well........I would welcome a few features that would benefit Vegas in the overall market although I wouldn't have much use for them unless one of my film projects got picked up by a distributor. Mainly, a wider choice of NLE export options, and ability to interface, in some way, with the requirements of commercial houses. Right now I have a "name" editor interested in doing a final edit of my miniDV footage (Panny DVX100), but right away the first question is, how do I show him my rough cuts if he can't import them as-is? I'd pay a little more without squawking if it wasn't too much more $$. I say, not TOO much more $$.

Editor 3333,
I show rough cuts all the time. I either create mpeg files or avi files. Avid can pull these in.... Quantel can pull these in....Sony Xpri can pull these in- so I am not sure why your editor cannot view your files in the system he is working on ?? The Abekas D1 suite I had could pull in DVCAM tape (or mini DV as far as that goes).
True- the edl will not export / transfer- but you can print out an edl- it's not the standard editors are use to seeing- but it would work in sync with the visual. I agree it would be nice to export the edl as a cmx style, or a grass valley style list... but we can work-around what you can do with vegas
