OT AMD plastic processor mounts

MY AMD plastic processor base mount (939) snapped off a small piece causing the fan/heatsink to fall off. I removed it found the small piece, super-glued it then hot glued it then re-installed and OK.
What happens when this happens? Computer shuts off about 3 seconds after you turn it on.

Is the fan actually running? Is the heatsink really really tight aginst the processor? Is the heatsink lying flat on the CPU so that all of the thermal transfer pad is contacted? Did you remove and replace the heatsink compound when you put it back together?

CPU with no/faulty heatsinking will heat REALLY fast and the bios will shut the machine down, once the temp threshhold is reached. Could be what's happening to you. Could also be other things, but that's what first came to mind in light of what you posted.
