After some digging, us AMD users will no longer be out of the Quad Core club. I just read here that AMD is set to release it's Phenom Quad Core Processors for AM2 socket on Nov. 19th.

Pricing is looking to be competitive with the Intel Quad Cores. One retailer is listing the following prices:

HD9500WCGDBOX CPU Desktop Phenom X4 9500 (4MB,95W,AM2) box $247.00
HD9600WCGDBOX CPU Desktop Phenom X4 9600 (4MB,95W,AM2) box $278.00
HD9700XAGDBOX CPU Desktop Phenom X4 9700 (4MB,125W,AM2) box $288.00

Contacted NewEgg and they weren't willing to divulge their pricing until they are released.

Finally I can give my trusty 3800+ X2 to my son.

NewEgg has the AMD Quad Cores in stock here for $260.00 USD - not a bad price I'd say for us AMD users

Had to get a new MB for PCI-E GPU earlier this year. Had to get XP. I just upgraded to a X2 939. Had to replace my PSU. Spent $400 this year on getting it to it's current state.

I'm still kinda upset AMD dropped 939 so quick. :( But tax time is comming... I know a few people who would like an AMD X2 system, so.... find a buyer i'll most likely get a new one. Heck, all I'll need is a MB, RAM & CPU. :D

I contacted Gigabyte last week about whether my motherboard would support the Quad Core Phenoms - Tech support stated a Bios Upgrade will be available next month to support them.

Can't wait for the Bios upgrade to be made available.
