OT: Anamorphic Lens.

I can't afford one of the new Sony HDV cameras yet, but I really want to shoot widescreen anamorphic, so I bought a Century Optics anamorphic lens for my VX2000. As I played with it for the first time today, I got a sinking feeling that I made a mistake in getting it. All the way wide is not wide enough for a wide shot, and the edges are no longer square. If I zoom in more than just a little, I can't seem to get focus. The image doesn't look as good color-wise either. How practical are these lenses?

Are you using the correct mount adapter or does the anamorphic lens screw into the existing lens? The anamorphic lens must be as close as possible to the standard lens. All of my experience was with anamorphic lenses with manual focus---you had to double focus if you put it in front of a standard lens. When you say widescreen do you mean 16 x 9 or 2.5 x 1?

That's a good question Laurence, and one I've been curious about as well. You may want to check over in the VX message boards of YahooGroups (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vx2k/) .

It's a bayonet mount attached directly to the unremovable lens. Aspect ratio is 16:9. The complete setup is the lens, a rectangular hood and a screw in UV filter to protect the lens. I guess I need some kind of a lens cap to go over this as well.
