OT: any one have experience with video processors?

I have a 60" plasma TV and it works great with HD, but falls apart with SD....especially SD from my TV cable box. The picture is terrible! I was told that a video processor/scaler would improve it. Something like this:

But they're quite expensive so I would like to know for sure if they actually improve the situation.

Before spending big dollars, how is your SD connected, if it's only composite that could be the start of your problems. Aside from that if it's any consolation our early model Bravias are simply horrid when fed SD from DV. Same composite connection but coming off pristine digibeta they look significantly better.

The SD comes off my cable box as Svideo (I can use composite, or RF as well but the Svideo is the best of the 3) The picture is blocky, pixelated and absolutely FULL of motion artifacts in faster action scenes.

It doesn't look so bad on my 42" plasma, In fact it's livable on the 42".... but the SD is just awful on the 60"

Could be that the digital sharpness is set too high?

Had the same problem when I got my 50" plasma. Thought I would change back to the old 42 - until I found the control for the digital sharpness and got it adjusted "properly" - and "properly" is NOT full sharpness :-)

Sharpness is set all the way down, but thanks anyway. It looks like I will be able to pick up a processor for $500 on ebay.... but still, $500 is a lot to pay if it doesn't help!!
