> You can't honestly compare Digital Juice's footage to Artbeats.

I was not comparing quality. I was comparing licensing. What good is royalty free footage if you have to be careful how you use it. That's all I was pointing out. I agree that Digital Juice footage looks like it was shot with a vacation camera (I own it also unfortunately). No comparison at all to the quality of Artbeats. I totally agree.

Remember that royalty free footage in quantity is still a new animal. It wasn't that long ago I was paying $1500 for a 20 sec clip of sky for a replacement shot.

The 25% limitation was one of the first types of agreements. The object being, if you are using it as the anchor of your production, then perhaps you pay more than just using it as an incidental replacement.

I think of it this way...
I don't mine getting few bucks for someone using a shot or two to augment their production, but if my work is the bulk of the project, then I expect a bigger piece of the pie.

Artbeats will do agreements for a larger part of the production than 25%, but accordingly, they expect more based on the intended use.

I think their promotion sweepstakes has ended and likely the "clip a day" is over as well.

It's still going.
I just finished downloading today's clip.

OK it's working now for me as well. I guess it's probably just updated sometime during the workday California time.

I did today's also, but had the same messages.

Turns out your have to go to "My Account" and then "My Clip Downloads". This shows the free clip. Today's was some water which was different than my first one.

If it works tomorrow, then that's the path.

I grabbed the AB clip before it was taken down. Not sure when I'll need a aerial pass of a snow-covered mountain, but it's nice to have I suppose.

I started to download the clip but the download cut-off time was sooner than my estimated download time. I was expecting to be disconnected when all of a sudden nothing happened, thanks Artbeats

One thing's for sure, those file sizes are HUGE. The highest rez version was a 500 MB clip that only lasts 20 seconds. Damn.

Yup, I've been scarfing up certain clips from this all along to (and I think it was you or Farss who told me about Artbeats and their various freebies long ago). I passed on about 30% of them, but the ones I got -- about 600 Gb. worth counting earlier freebies -- are pretty nice :)

Which reminds me...
I'm going to send them a nice thank-you note for this latest generosity.

Artbeats gets a premium price because:
A-all their high-dollar work is 35mm acquired. Recently they've been acquiring with Red and other higher end systems (including multiple DSLR's shooting in sequence).
B-Their footage is very unique. You'll find a lot of attempts to duplicate their footage, but rarely is it met in terms of quality.

Even their Vline and other lower grade, less costly lines are generally better quality than most production libraries.

They simply don't accept crap. A lot of libraries do.
Having expensive footage assures some level of exclusivity to those that do buy it. For me, I like that. I know that the work I'm bidding won't have a dozen other people bidding with what footage I've got to offer.

Artbeats also manages to have a large staff of people that will find/acquire what you need if they don't offer it (in many cases). Stock footage is what they do. It's all they do.

Yes, I'm an Artbeats fan-boy. We've made a lot of revenue using their content in a lot of very broad market channels.

A Ferrari or Maserati costs a lot more than a VW for a reason; they last longer, have a lower number of vehicles manufacturered, they take excellent care of their customers, and their rarity defines the financial (and often social) class of the customer using their content.
Artbeats is the Ferrari of stock footage. Fortunately, they also sell VW's too.

Shouldn't we be working instead of ranting pet peeves.

BTW, their stuff is way overpriced and some of it is crap.
