i would guess that the raid array's are needed only for full-on hd video... the hdv bitrate is the same as dv, so faster drive speed won't help... what's needed is a non-hardware-based way to decode the native hdv mpeg2 files during playback.

Avid indicates that DNxHD is a way to get better compositing, effects and titles by avoiding the crappy camera tape formats (incl. even 3:1:1 HDCAM).

It really sounds like a transcode from a HD camera recording format to a higher spec format inside the Express HD NLE. Or am I misunderstanding this?

I am just hoping Sony can find a way to do what Avid is doing for their NLE and do it for Vegas. Then I could totally dump Avid altogether.
