OT: Best Buy 50 Fuji 8X DVD -/+ R - $14.99

This is a decent sale, but don't order it online unless you are ordering it online for in-store pickup.

Make sure that the label says Made in Japan so that you end up with TYG02 media. If it says Made in Taiwan - Forget it.

You can tell quickly because the Fuji Japanese spindles have a corrugated bottom edge rather than a smooth one.

Careful though. The photo looks like the 16X media packaging that I have seen not the 8X packaging, but they may have changed it or put the wrong photo on the website. I would not buy any 16X media. None of it is reliable.

The last couple of times I have been to Best Buy, I was not able to find any Fujis made in Japan, only in Taiwan.

I did take a chance and pick up Sony DVD+R's made in Japan. These did turn out to be Taiyo Yuden. The DVDs had a blue label and said AccuCore.

They also had some ones with a yellow label, don't remember if they were from Taiwan or not. I know some of the Sonys I looked at were made in Taiwan.
The disks are labeled 1-8x and I just burned some data discs at 16x in my NEC drive.

CompUSA had a sale this past weekend on 100 TDK DVD -/+ R at $29 - no rebates - instant savings. Purchased 300 and so far no problems. I have been using TDK media for about 12 months now without a single coaster and very low error rates.
