OT: Best DVD-RAM Media

musicvid10 wrote on 9/12/2009, 1:39 PM
I have a Panasonic set-top recorder that works well most of the time.
The problems that I have with frame corruption (sometimes bad) are near the outside of the disc, and/or at higher recording bitrates (>4Mbs).

I am using Verbatim DVD-RAM media, mostly because I trust it for DVD-R.
Anyone know of / use anything better? Any advice welcomed.

Taiyo Yuden is excellent and the only media that I use.

Peter,
Can you direct me to a supplier of DVD-RAM media manufactured by T-Y?

I've never seen it offered in the U.S., although T-Y recordable media, with which I am familiar, is commonly available. Thanks!

I have used Meritline for years, both for good prices and availability:

If TY is not available you might want to consider using Ritek, which is also excellent in quality.

OK, thanks. I'm looking for DVD-RAM, not DVDR.

I can get Panasonic, Verbatim, and Maxell locally, guess I'll stick with that.

It's been a while since I looked at DVD-RAM media, but it looks like a whole bunch of folks have stopped making this type of disk. I used to see TY and Ritek, but all there seems to be right now is Panasonic, Verbatim and Maxell as you said. Sorry to get your hopes up.

Ritek excellent???

Are we talking about the coaster manufacturer of the same name?

Have they really improved that much?

I use TY media whenever I can, but upon running out on one ocassion I had picked up a stack of 100 Ritek disks. I burned all of them without a single failure (I did verification after each burn). But like I said, I prefer TY above all others by a long shot.
