Hi

Just got a job for a client including making a simple webpage with blogging facility.

I found this software http://wordpress.org/ that I now have tried. It's really easy to start with and free, so if anyboby here are looking for blogging on their website, try this one out. You need mysql and php on your server. Takes 5 min. to install.

Wordpress is king for a reason. Great functionality, great support, and great templates by the thousands.

Recently got my site converted to WP, really like it, makes it so much easier and saves so much time updating it. Cost a bit to have someone customize it and trick it out but really happy with it so far.

If you use wordpress, make sure you keep it updated. I've used it for a few years and my site has been hacked a couple times in that time. They do make it easier to keep updated now than it use to be.

Well WordPress is OK but real men (and SonyBMG) use Drupal. The Drupal learning curve is a bit stiffer than WordPress but it is much more capable. Give it a look. Easy audio and video embedding. Standard blogging with comments. Lots of themes. Give it a look.

I just visited the Drupal.org site, and it sure looks nice. The only thing that would scare me a bid, is that I am a bid overwelmed by all the features, and that it might take much more time to get it going, but it sure looks nice.

I'm big Drupal fan and have used it to set up many web pages. In fact, however, for your simple blog app WordPress is the right solution. For anything more sophisticated where you have a few hours or a day or two then Drupal is certainly worth the effort. I chose it a few years back based on the recommendation from an IBM group who surveyed the available Content Management Systems and picked Drupal. It's free and has a huge base of users who develop add-on modules and provide the sort of support that we are used to on this forum. The main competitor to Drupal is Joomla. Pretty big fan base for that app as well.

A note on WordPress. Like Drupal and Joomal, WordPress can be set up to run on a Linux based server with (I think) MySQL support. For that you need an ISP that will support this sort of application. But WordPress can also be set up to simply run over the net without going to the trouble of paying for the Linux server support. The simple version is probably all you need.
