OT: Buggiest Software List

It's not really a valid comparison to Vegas vs PPro etc., but as one who prefers Vegas 9 Pro versus other aps like PPro and FCP (that I HAVE to use at times), this article provides some insight.

Yes, I know they're talking about security...my point is that the issue is instructive: Adobe stuff isn't necessarily a solution for those who would like to use other stuff. And as one who uses After Effects a LOT...there's just one thing to say about anything Adobe (even photoshop): Save early, save often.

On the adobe front, PPro CS2 has been a nightmare for us. Photoshop CS2 has been very stable (Except that it sometimes loses most of my working state and goes back to defaults)

Flash CS2? Never crashes on me but there are lots of design quirks that I'm hoping are fixed in later versions.

Dreamweaver CS2? Another nightmare but we're stressing it really hard, enough to make it excusable.

I'm not stressing VP9.0c enough to see problems.

Of course, security holes are not the same thing as bugs or instability. A program could be totally stable and bug free yet still riddled with security holes.

One thing I've noticed with Adobe CS3, well AE is where this applies the most, is if your hardware and drivers are not 100% things go wrong a LOT. Vegas seems much more immune but not entirely. What that's meant to me is getting AE happier has also made Vegas happier.
I've also noted AE kind of works happiest when you use it the way it was designed to work, changing composition settings in the middle of something moderately complex will get me into trouble.
What I do like is I've yet to loose anything. The Increment and Save encourages good housekeeping and even when it has spun out I've always been given the opportunity of one last chance to save the project.

In general my gut feeling is since we've moved into multithreaded, multiprocessor applications bugs have become more commonplace, harder to replicate and squash.

I save my Vegas projects automatically every *minute*.

I don't think any crash, no matter how unlikely, is worth pain. Better to be safe than sorry.

As for Adobe software - Premiere and AE, that is - they do sometimes feel very responsive, which aids workflow. But not being able to change project settings midway through, the terrible audio capabilities, the bloat, and the constant Meia Offline message... Aaaarrrrgghhhh!
