OT: burning MP3 question

Doug_Marshall wrote on 11/18/2004, 10:49 AM
I use CDA all the time but am trying to help my nephew do an mp3 cd for his car and can't seem to get the songs into the desired order (have tried EZ CD and Nero). They resolutely arrange themselves in Windows file list order, regardless. Any suggestions? Should I be using some other software package? Sorry for the off topic. - Doug Marshall

It sounds like you are burning a CDrom of the MP3 files. The song order will always obey to Windows operation of alphabetizing them in order by the file names. If you want them to play in a certain order then you need to name them so they sort in the order you want in Windows.

Here's what you do. Name the files like this.

001 Song title1.mp3
002 next song title2.mp3
003 etc song titlle.mp3

If you use 3 digit numbers like above you can put up to 1000 songs in the order you want them to play. If you don't have so many songs then just use 2 digits......(ie 01, 02, 03)....make sure you place the "0" when placing more than 9 songs in order. If you name them (0,1, 2, 3, 4.....10, 11, 12), then the order will be:
0,1, 10,11,12, 2,3,4

Get it?

Thanks, Rednroll. That sounds like the solution. Hopefully this will avoid a nephew meltdown. ;-)

Well, it stopped a wife breakdown for me, when I had to explain it to my wife, when she ran into the same problem. :-)
