OT:Can't open Windows Explorer

WAY off topic but it happpened late last night (OK, early this morning about 1:30 am) I was finishing up a Vegas project and double clicked my way out of being able to do access the Windows Explorer window.
When I right click on XP Start and select "Explore" a Start Menu icon appears in the bottom Task Bar. I can't resize it or open it at all.
Also can't open Explore All Users, Open All Users and can't open Customize Start Menu.
All these windows go to the Task Bar and I can't open them...they just sit at the bottom of the screen in the task bar. Anyone got a fix for this?
Did I double click into the Twilight Zone?

use task manager and shut down all cases of explorer .. it will usually comeback on its own - but if not use task manager again (control alt delete again if necessary) and use 'run' -> "explorer'
