ot: capture to usb2?

no time to test for myself.

have three camera shoot tomorrow and thought i'd capture the v1p to hd (as well as tape) via adobe on location. unfortunately my laptop is full and my wife's only has a 80gb hd.

so. rather than spend the rest of the day transferring stuff around (i really don't have the time), can / could i simply capture through her laptop to an external usb2?

it'll be hdv and pretty long takes of talking heads....

tia

btw. i asked my guru (bob) and he thought i'd be better off capturing direct to my laptop - less cables, etc., but if i use hers i don't have that option, but on the other hand, we're not moving around....

leslie, I used to regularly firewire through my desktop to a USB 2 drive and never had any dropouts (2 hr. or more).

As long as you're still going firewire from camera to laptop, you'll be fine. The bandwidth of USB2 and the drive at the end of it is around 13 times faster than the video data stream. You won't even come close to taxing it.

you know i know these things, it's just i don't believe anything i think anymore ;-(

thanks gents - appreciated.

now, either of you know a cure for not drifting off during long (locked off) talking head sessions, and NO, i don't mean playing a game on your smart phone....

The only cure I know is to stand up, although sometimes even that doesn't work :)

Now you talk major effort. Try a 3 day political (government) seminar.

Edit: That does not even start talking about editing it (multi camera).

After 15 years of running the sound system, for one show at our local theater group i got picked to be one of the follow spot operators. Mind numbing. I ended up with earbuds under my headset so that i could listen to Mozart, Bach, and Telemann to keep me awake during the show.
