OT: CD/DVD organizer...a great tool

Hey everybody,
You may already know about this thing but I'm so pleased with it, I wanted to share with my friends: It's a case about the size of a PC case with 75 motorized slots that store CDs/DVDs. It comes with software that will allow one to enter info manually or it will scan the disk and record all info. Enter a keyword in the search engine and it brings up all relevant disks, click one and it rolls out. If you're like me and store most of your data on DVD or CDs and have to rummage through cases or towers, you may find this gadget a bargain at $130.

Just beware. I purchased this a while back. Originally it did not work at all with Windows XP. They eventually released a new driver for it that is supposed to fix it..Still no joy. Tech support suggested a timing problem with my USB chipset so I purchased a PCI USB card.. Software still locks up.

So, right now I do have this and do use it but I keep track of what is in what slot via a spreadsheet and use the buttons on the front to drive it.

Other vendors make similar products..I would consider them all and buy this (or another) from someplace where you can return it easily if needed.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the warning...I'm using the 4.0 drivers via a USB 2 port and so far so good. I didn't realize that KDS was not exclusively manufacturing either (tigerdirect advertises it as being the "first"). I hope you get your issues resolved with it, the software is the main attraction for me.

Yup..I am using the 4.0 drivers..Also tried on a PCI USB 2.0 port. There could very well be some interaction with the video drivers (somehow)..since when I updated to the 2.3 ATI catalyst drivers, I can now run the 4.0 software for a few minutes before it locks up (used to lock up before even completing the launch).

So, for people it works for I suspect it is great...Based on the little info I can find about this, it does appear that it ends up being incompatible with quite a few systems.

Apparently others have had a problem as well:

Too bad. Seems like a pretty neat device.
