I used a sony one in my old JVC cams without issue- well, other than it helped to clean up my dirty heads :)

To answer your question, I don't think it matters. I do beleive some offer wet and others offer dry cleaners. You might want to look into the difference.

I use Canon tape for my Canon and Sony tape for my Sony - might not matter, but I don't want either Canon or Sony to be bale to say that using another brand could be the course of problems some time.

But it might not matter after all...

While I don't think it matters that much which brand tape cleaner you use don't forget that it is the tape residue you are cleaning so with that in mind you should use a Sony tape cleaner in any camcorder in which you are cleaning up the residue from Sony tapes and a Panasonic tape cleaner in any camcorder in which you are using Panasonic tape, etc.
