OT: Clothing....

This might be a strange question...but still...

I have thought on what to wear when you do a wedding. I think it is hard to choose; on one side I think it would look silly to wear tie and suit, but on the other hand it should maybe not be too much in the other end either.

How do you guys handle it? Thanks for any input.

I'm sure you'd look lovely in white Ulf.

Seriously, I'd say wear something to make you as unnoticable as possible - black shirt and pants usually cuts it. Regarding jackets and/or ties, I would ask them beforehand if your proposed outfit was ok, then you only need to wear jacket/tie if it's important to them.

i don't 'tout' for weddings, but i've been asked to shoot a few, either as second camera, or on my own due to pressure on the 'producer'.

as peter points out, best not to put the groom (or bride!) to shame. black everything seems quite universally acceptable.

of course, your camera shpuld also be black, or close as possible to distinguish it as 'professional' from the dozen of other 'silver' things waved in front of you during the cutting of the cake....

try to look nice while also have the spare tapes, batterties & what not in pants with enough pockets to hold them. :)

Dress pants have very deep pockets!

All good suggestions. I have done weddings as it was the revenue stream that allowed me to get my business of the ground. We typically will dress business casual versus business formal. Here's my two cents.

* Dress for the location. Is it indoors or outdoors. Personally you would never catch me in a long sleeve and tie at an outdoors July / August wedding. It might actually be best to have an change of clothes.

*Do not out dress anyone at the event this includes the wedding party and guests.

* Consider the age of the client. Younger generations are less likely to be as formally dressed.

* You have to be comfortable, you will be one of half a dozen people that are actually on their feet for 8 to 12 hours. Comfortable shoes are not always the most classic design.

* Don't over think it. Common sense will get you a long way, when its all over the clients only consider a few things.... how was the interaction and are they pleased with the video.

* Just my opinion, "all black" may be to much. Yes, black goes with everything... yes it will make you look slim.... it can also express the opinion of oneself.
