OT: Copyright - A simple answers

Sorry to start a new thread about this but everything else seems to focus on what you cannot do and what a PIA this is and what a nasty bunch those publishers, musicians and record labels are.

Well does anyone realise there's a HUGE catalogue of work that one CAN use?
Do you realise once you register they'll even give you CDs of the music for FREE, yes folks, not a dime to spend. You only pay when you use it. Now what could be simpler, easier than buying a pizza, you gotta pay for them even if you don't eat them. And guess what this stuff is written as production music, how thoughtless of the composers and musicians, making our job easier! Goodness me, maybe they actually want us to use their music.

Just one link to one of 100s of places that has music on offer:
http://www.emiproductionmusic.com.au/default.asp?page=home.asp
Here's another to a list of Production Music Libraries that AMCOS represents. AMCOS are Australian but pretty well all the libraries they handle are available world wide. :

There's no complications with using this stuff, no negotiating, no legal fees, you just use and pay fixed fees.

Bob.

Spot? You wanna add these people? I use they scores/tunes - as do a mass of well known channels - great stuff!

As AKM says :The UK's No.1 Choice for Copyright Free Music

. .and Bob? This was my point too. There IS plenty of creative, urgent, evocative, relevant and appropriate music out there, that CAN be used repeatedly and legally. Briefly forgetting the central, crucial moral aspect of "theft" - why, WHY flaunt stupidity and court ( lol!) the risk of a lawsuit?

Tell you what folks?!? The music I use is now so well known, that in itself THIS creates its own subconscious following. "Isn't that the .. ?" "Doesn't Channel?? use that for their . .. ?" - Now who would have thought that? This IS a full circle.

Stop beating against a door that opens inwards.

I used some music for a main titles of a film I mixed last year. Sort of this industrial vibe to it and fit the main title perfectly. Than I see this Hilary Duff movie and they use this same royality free music in one scene, although it was much shorter version and was very much out of place. Course now I dunno if that is a good thing or bad thing...but it is for sure a "thing".

What you're tlaking about is buy out music, then there's the Free Play deal which is basically pay for use, well mostly whoever airs your work gets to pay if covered by ASCAP else you get to pay.

The stuff I was referring to is nothing like that, serious money involved but from my limited investigation so far there's a lot of stuff in there from labels such as Sony, EMI etc. In other words a LOT of the well known material is available for use, I think some of Spot's works come under the same deal. It is not cheap but it IS available, you just use and pay. Some it seem comes as tracks for you to mix. When you consider that you can have bookshelves full of CDs of this material for free you'll understand why it costs when you do use it.
Certainly I think too expensive for most event videos unless they're loaded corporates.

I've found a lot of great tracks at Yopo music:
http://www.yopo.co.uk/index.html
I think someone on this forum first turned me on to it.

Anyways, the nice thing about Jonathan Slatter's music is it's "dirt" cheap, something like $3 to $6 US per track. Not only that, but if you buy a certain amount in one download (something like $40 US) you get a 25% discount. Lot's of catchy music and lots of great well-known classical pieces also available.
