Sharpen? Yes.

Zoom in and sharpen? No.

aparently does do zoom+sharpen. Here's what it does:
* One Click Fix
* Clean video noise
* 2x Resolution - Increase the detail of low-resolution videos
* Stabilize shaky videos
* Sharpen blurry videos
* De-interlace
* Contrast correction
* Brighten dark videos
* Fix videos in batches
* “Fine Tuning” enhancement controls for advanced users

now, if it can stabilize as good as Mercalli & deinterlace good, then that $50 itself is worth it.

Those things do not exist in real life, only on TV. Not the kind of enhancements they do on CSI, not even close.

Not like in the movies it doesn't. The article was a bit of what I would call uninformed hype.

I remember trying the demo when it first came out. It only works on SD and it didn't seem to do as good a job as the company claimed. Blurry stuff was still somewhat blurry. Try it yourself and see.

the page with the software doesn't say it does it like on TV, it just says it does a zoom + enhancement.

It does say "CSI-Style video enhancement" which implys a lot, but says nothing.

I copied/paste the capabilities list, so unless they changed it, that's what it does.

From the description:
You can enhance videos with a vertical resolution of 576 pixels (PAL resolution) or less. You can apply simple edits (rotate, trim) on all videos up to HD.

It's been a while since I shot video at that low resolution.

You cannot restore something that is not there. Words of wisdom from Mr. Spock.

Excellent point, James!

"Restore" means to bring back to or put back into a former or original state.
