OT: Curved Text tips sought

PeterWright wrote on 7/11/2007, 3:16 AM
I've tried elsewhere without luck, so here's hoping my favourite community can help.
We recently had a thread about curved text for DVD labels, and Canon's software makes this easy, but now I need to do some curved text in a "solid" graphic for a badge design for a client.

I am using PSP7, which has this facility - create vector shape, then draw text along the created curve. I have done a circle, and the first piece of text is in place perfectly, then I can make the circle invisible.

But now I want to put some more text at the bottom, on a separate layer, sort of "inside" a similar circle, but it keeps appearing outside the circle, and therefore is upside down.

Any help would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks,
Peter.

I kinda remember this.

Repeat what you did, COPY Paste as new layer and change KERNING to a -ve Number

I got PsP8 and am trying now.

Forget that!!

Just GRAB hold of the uppermost VECTOR Box handle and DRAG it through itself! The Circle turns inside out and the TEXT is now INSIDE at the bottom.

I'm now attempting to make 2 layers that will fit onto each other.

It's an ugly solution, but one I just stumbled on.

Grazie - you're a legend. Thanks for all that - I'm sleeping on it but will check it all out in the morning ....

Well Grazie, turning the circle inside out didn't work with PSP7, but I have now learnt to use curved Bezier lines to achieve what I need - a morning of trial and error, reading and re-reading Help files, and another trick learnt!

Excelento!

I also did some test along your lines. My impression is that I didn;t like the way the text, although following the path, was kinda "scrunched-up" towards the centre? Maybe I would have done the whole thing in WORD and made for a simpler experience using some of WORD'S WordART and changed the params on it?

Great you got a solution - yah wanna email me your PsP results? I honestly want to see what you can achieve in PsP7.

One thing you might try is to:

1. First attach the text object to the circle object.

2. Next, select the circle object and right-click within the object and select "node edit". That will make the circle editable on a node basis.

3. Now right-click within the (now selected) circle object and choose "edit" then "reverse path". That will place the text on the inside of the circle.

4. Exit the node edit mode by clicking the "select" icon and you can now use the rotate handle to position the text within the circle as needed.

Thank you Jim - that works very well, and is more dependable than trying to create a curved line that is an exact arc of a given circle. You're a lot more help than the Help files!

I do like learning new tricks .....
