(OT) dcr-pc350 opinions

I might have the privilage of receiving a dv camera for a christmas present... the price is around $1000. I have been doing a lot of research and going into stores to check out what is available.

Since it is a gift from my family, it also needs to be practicle for family events (so the pd150 I know of for 1500.00 is out - if it needs its own suitcase, its out).

Right now, from everything I've researched, the pc350 seems like the best buy. My concerns are the lack of manual control and the lack of headphone jacks...

Before I commit my family's money to something, I want to be as sure as possible re: the wisdom of the purchase and would value your opinions.

Thank you and happy holidays (I'm enjoying the song, Spot!),
Greg

Panasonic have a nice camera, a bit cheaper than the 150, the DVC30E, although I suspect even in the US it's a bit out of your price range.

Sony's TRV80 of which we have 5 is a pretty good camera for the money, I'd avoid anything too small, the best of the really small cameras was the PC100 but that line has gone downhill since that model.
