OT: Debugmode Frameserver Help needed

Cliff Etzel wrote on 5/12/2008, 11:20 AM
I am trying to frameserve my HDV timeline to Procoder and when I go to render using Debugmode Frame server, I get the following error message:

"Unable to create signpost AVI file. Please close any applications that may be using the file and try again"

There aren't any other applications using this file other than the timeline from Vegas Pro.

Any ideas what I'm missing? I'm under deadline to get this rendered and I have no idea why this is happening.

Check to make sure you aren't duplicating the name if the file, or at least not in the same folder.

That didn't work for me - I'm not sure why I can't frameserve at all - I've uninstalled and reinstalled, still the same error message.

I finally had to render out an AVI and then convert accordingly - lost alot of valuable time having to go that route. Would have been much more efficient to frameserve to Procoder.

Does the framserver avi codec appear in your render menu by itself?

Do you have version 2.5? Earlier versions don't work with V8.

Also, I have had that error message many times when I have already served into another application, and then that application didn't "release" the hold on the signpost file. Re-booting might help. Also, try a different file name for the signpost.

So, those are my three ideas ...

JJK - Yes DebugMode shows up as a render option

JM - Am using version 2.5. I didn't serve to any other application - I couldn't get the signpost file to even work - no matter what name I gave it. I'll try rebooting and see if that helps.

That's a familiar error. When I get done with a capture I'll look into it (if you haven't solved it yet).

The one thing that comes to mind is that there are two possible render entries to choose from in the render dialog. The one labeled "internal" doesn't do anything useful.

You might also try going through the motions of creating a still sequence. I don't think Satish's interface is entirely perfect so you might actually need to get the still sequence settings configured to something sane. Make sure everything points to real paths, just to be safe.

FWIW, on the first Frameserver dialog, I choose YUY2 (or RGB24 if the receiving app requires that), and do NOT check either of the checkboxes.

[Edit]

P.S. I just looked at the debugmode forums:

Unable to create signpost in VS 8

Others have reported problems in V8, and have found a few workarounds. May be a bug ...

Discovered that it had to do with the last entry you linked to in the Debug Forums - My audio properties were set to 48khz 24bit (Not sure why).

Changed the audio properties to 48/16 and it works - go figure!!!

Thanks much John!!!
