There's been a few discussions about defrag' and my question would now be:
Do you know where I could find a good free defragmenter that won't bug my system (XP) ? And if there's no free option, what do you use/which one do you think is the best?
Unless your system is configured with many and very large and complex storage volumes for similarly complex applications that require being available non-stop, there are no needs for anything beyond the in-box defragmenter.
I disagree with SVoba--there are many advantages to a defrag utliity other then the one that comes with XP---I use Executive Diskeeper---they have a lite version for free. Its very fast--much more so then XP and gives you a host of options that XP doesn't---I defrag often and find the speed to be critical
I also use Executive Diskeeper and have had very good success with it.
I indicated on a survey that I had a Diskeeper technical question, no problem with the program; just a question, and their technical support kept tracking me down until they could talk with me and answer my question. I was very impressed.
Diskeeper is significantly faster than either Norton Speed Disk or XP built in defrag. I hear that the built in XP defrag is built on Diskeeper, but not nearly as fast or deluxe.
If you are looking for a defragger that will maintain your disk defragmentation; I have 6 120 GB hard drives, do it fast, and do it well, Diskeeper is the way to go.
I vote for Raxco PerfectDisk2000. I tried Diskeeper about a year ago and was quite disappointed with it - I could never get it to consolidate all the free disk space
