OT: Deleting files on Camcorder harddrive

I have the Sony XR500V .. I assume the harddrive interface is similar on the SR12 and SR11 and other Sony harddrive models. Is there a faster and easier way to delete files than using the camcorder's interface? --- I see how the MTS files match up with the CPI files but the MPL files do not match up -- so can I just delete the MTS and CPI files using Windows Explorer and call it a day? -- just not sure how to go about deleting safely without using their interface.

That's certainly a more convienant way, but it may be better to do it through your camcorder. The reason being is that some files may not get deleted if you do it on your computer.
Can anyone else shed some light on this?

Next day after I bought my XR500V I tried to delete some MTS files using Windows Explorer. After I disconnected USB cable and tried to view some other files I got nothing. I had to re-format hard drive using camcorder menu.

Do you have PMB installed? May be you can use that?

No. I didn't install PMB. I'm deleting via the camcorder so far as using Windows Explorer seems problematic. I think it's the MPL files that would cause a problem. It's a bit slow to delete on the camcorder but nothing huge considering the convenience of the download versus tape. I imagine it would be a good thing to format the drive occasionally too. Thanks for the response. Loving the XR500V so far too!
