Already got one, not as good as the previous model.
Great value for the money, looks good, feels good and you get a USB hub and card reader in the thing and every form of input you're likely to need.
Overall illumination is far from top notch and there's serious banding with gradients.
Still at around half the price of anything else one cannot complain too much, such good value really I've thought of buying another one.

One of the reasons they're so cheap is Dell have taken a hammering over the banding issue, Dell seem to have been saying they'll fix it in a firmware update and then saying they have and then they can't. Who know, I've get to see it as an issue in actual footage, just test patterns.

Oh, and one other thing, unlike some 24" monitors, it does do 16:9, not 16:10.

I got the one somone here had recommended earlier this year/last year, and it's great.. looks like the earlier model is what I got, the one with the half-circle base instead of the one that's illustrated in the costco ad... so far it's worked tremendously all year long, like a champ.. no problems at all.. but this new one may not be as good as the old one? thx to whoever'd mentioned the dell 24" last year/earlier here on the forum.. it's been great..

The banding problem was permanently fixed in Rev A02.

The Rev. is marked even on the outside of the box, so you can return it unopened if you buy it on eBay or from a dealer with old inventory.

Dell sells it for $799 with a 3 year warranty, but they had it on sale not long ago for $700. They also sell a very handy arm for wall-mounting for $135 that can give you back half your desk.

Some dealers sell the Dell for more money with a no-bad-pixels-and-a-perfectly-even backlight guarantee (about $100 more for a handpicked unit).

If you want this size screen with a slight improvement in video quality and less service hassle, there is always the Samsung 244T for about $800-$900 depending on the phase of the moon.

There are even rumors that these two screens use the same [Samsung] LCD panel, but different electronics and the rest..

It is very clear that if you go to a big box electronics store they have lots of 1366x768 TVs today, starting at $373 for a 23" through $499 for a 27", and of course premium brands in those screen sizes for 2-3x as much.

However, the picture on even the most expensive of these don't come close to what you get with the 24" 1920x1080 Dell or Samsung computer monitors, or with the Gateway FPD2185W ($499-$599 21" 1680x1050).

All of these computer monitors have that astonishingly high quality picture that comes from careful signal processing, Faroudja DCDi, etc., and they all have the different analog and digital inputs you're likely to need, including the vital HDCP.

They're also all true 8-bit screens, FWIW.

Don't forget front projection. I spent an hour yesterday evaluating a Sony VPL-VW100. About $10K, but astonishing picture quality in every area. 1080P of course, and an amazing value actually, as it is better than the last $30,000 Qualia I saw, and it is more like a "small screen Christie" :O). Really, it is that good.

Sony also has a $5K 1080P projector coming in about two weeks, this one will have more light than the "Vw" model above, but they will have cut corners in a number of places (mercury lamp instead of xenon, lens, electronics, etc.)

I could be wrong here but I don't think the Samsung has all the inputs of the Dell (e.g. component), that may not be an issue or a deal breaker.

Last time I checked the Whirlpool forum Rev A02 did not fix the banding problem. I sure hope it has but reports some time ago were not promising.

I agree with wht you're saying about TVs. I think a large part of the problem might be the scalers, we have several of the "720" Bravias and they are just horrible displaying SD, HD looks a little better but with 1080i going into them still pretty ugly up close. The new X series Bravias might be better as they're a native 1080 panel.

When I checked last week it was $600.00 when bundled with an Alienware computer (Dell owns them).

I bought the Dell 24" a mont ago, and it is great. Very bright and very crisp. A great deal for $700 IMHO.
