OT: Dell U2713HM monitor backlight bleeding?

Hi guys,

I am looking around for a 27" monitor for my PC.
I thought I could go for the Dell U2713HM it is highly rated on Cnet.

But I read some complaints about a backlight bleeding issue.

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/t/19497194.aspx

Anyone using this monitor and do you have any issues with it?

If so which 27" monitor would you suggest for mainly Vegas editing purpose. With IPS and 2560x1440 resolution like the Dell.

The Apple cinema display 27 looks great.
But
- I don't like the reflective glass.
- My Pc doesn't have a thunderbolt connection.
- And it seems overpriced.

I have the U2713HM and can't say enough good things about it. Zero backlight bleeding whatsoever, and uniformity is outstanding, so I can't comment on the "why or how" regarding those complaints. I did purchase mine early this year i.e. in the same time frame of those complaint posts you linked.

I also have an HP ZR30w which is 2560x1600 and except that the Dell wasn't an option at the time I bought the HP I'd prefer to have two of those instead, for the price of the one HP.

As I type this I have a fan going behind the HP to dispel heat from the HP's fluorescent backlight. The Dell's LED backlighting doesn't need any such help of course.

Thanks BlackMax,

That's good to read from another Vegas user :-).

Well I have the HP on my video machine, but still do highly recommend the Dell, particularly if you can get it for a good price (mine was <$600 from newegg on sale).

Thanks,

I can get it here in Europe for € 474 that's a nice price.
Especially compared to the Apple Cinema Display which is around 900 Euros.

Well I hope if you get one that you get a good one then!

I understand that at least here in the US this is some sort of premium product that gets special attention from Dell if there are issues with it. I haven't had to avail myself of this of course; not sure how Dell services the European market but wish you best of luck.

Unlike computers themselves, monitors are supposed to last a relatively long time!

Hi BlackMax ,

I talked to one of the support members from Dell about the monitor and also asked about the bleeding issue. He has never heard of such an issue.
Weirdly if you purchase it for business you can NOT return it for another one (unless there is some factory damage e.t.c).
If you purchase it as a consumer you can return it for another one within x days.

I find that weird, how can a business purchaser get less service.
Anyway I think I am going to purchase it via an online shop.
Maybe they have a different kind of replacement service.
