OT: Deshaker and Virtual Dub

Former user wrote on 4/4/2011, 3:30 PM
I have a video clip shot from a helicopter that I need to stabilize. I have downloaded the latest versions of Deshaker and Virtual Dub. But Virtual Dub doesn't recognize the file.

850MB Mt2s file - HDV 1080-60i , 29.97fps, 1440 x 1080 interlaced

Does anyone have an idea as to what format should I export the file from Vegas so that Virtual Dub can handle it?

I'm using Vegas 8.0c (and Vegas 8.1) if that makes a difference.

Thanks.

Virtual Dub accepts most any AVI file for which you have the codec installed. Personally, I use the Lagarith codec for files between Vegas and Virtual Dub.

Download Lagarith codec from this page.

Thanks John (Meyer). I guess that means it's complex and I should do my own research.

Ha! John_Cline, just as I was making my screen print, you made your post. What I was going to say was... even after New Deshaker is installed, the OP is still going to need to make a decision re: a rendering format. I also like Lagarith. What I don't know ('cuz I don't have much experience with VirtualDub & Anamorphic HD) is whether the OP should create a 1440x1080 template - or a 1920x1080 square pixel. ??

Here's what I do know - don't use the Default - Uncompressed template with a source that big.

Converting any m2t or similar file in Vegas to preferably uncompressed AVI file may produce the best results in Deshaker/VirtualDub. This is simply because the more detail and clear edges you have the better that the algorithms will work.

Once you are done, you can import the Stabilized AVI file into Vegas and convert to your desired format. It may take more room, but space is cheap these days and worth the improved results.
Cheers.
