Just received and read my copy of Digital Video Basics, Your Guide To Making Great Movies by Spot and VASST. Wow! This book is packed with excellent, useable information that is extremely understandable. I found gems on every page (over 135) that will help me make better shows. This is a great reference book. And to think it's less than $17. Get it, you won't be sorry. The link is here: http://www.vasst.com/login.htm.

Thanks, Randy, for the kind words. We worried that while it's fairly basic information, we may have taken it too far. If a seasoned vet like you found it valuable....then it's a big compliment. We know for sure we didn't take it too "high brow" if schools are using it. But your words alleviate my worry that we'd gone too simple with it as well.

Spot,
Not to basic for me for sure! What I really liked is the recommendation for how to do each task showing close-up pictures of the hardware, setup, methods, etc., that really helped me understand how to do it "better". System setup, basic editing, how to frame shots, lighting, audio, building inexpensive sets & dollys, hardware recommendations, etc., it's all there. I'll get a lot of mileage out of this book!
Thanks again,
Randy
P.S. I especially liked the "talent" used in the pictures, make sure you mention it to "Mr. Wizard". ;-)

As an avid reader of many technical subjects I find books like this are always either too simple or when aiming for a highter audience omit base knowlege needed to fully comprehend the more advanced topics.

I would ask any author to write such books in two volumes. A basic background book and an advanced volume that builds on the former.
