OT: Doctor Who

Hi

I'm looking at the "Doctor Who Confidential" for the "Vampires in Venice" episode. "Confidential" are basically the behind the scenes episodes that follow each Doctor Who Episode.

This time you get a number of good looks at the production equipment, and I'm just a bit surprised at what cameras they are using for DW. If I'm not mistaken, the primaries are the Sony F23 or F35 cameras. I would have thought that those would be a bit...overkill for a TV production, even one as awesome as Doctor Who.

I also see a Canon used for some of the wide shots in Venice.

Dunno about your inquiry. Been a victom of "The Doctor" for many, many years. Not sure about the latest incarnation, more about storyline than video. Oh well, off we go. D

That production uses a lot of chroma key, which is facilitated by high end HD cameras.

Huh?

There's still episodic TV being shot on 35mm!
Dr Who is a very high value asset. It will keep making money for a long time. If the production values are not high it can very soon start to look old and loose some of its value.

Also its worth keeping in mind that cameras are a very small part of high end productions' overall cost. When you're spending the GDP of a 3rd world country every day why would you not capture the very best possible image available.
