OT - Dropped Packets - HDV Split

I'm capturing some 40 min videos from a couple different HD camera sources, one Sony and one Canon. I noticed during the Canon capture HDVSplit kept rolling out these Dropped Packet warnings... lots of them. But when I went to look at the finished file, it played fine. I chalked it up to potential file differences because I was capturing the file taken on a Canon using my Sony camera as the player.

Now I'm half way through the capture on the footage taken with my Sony and I'm getting dropped packets steadily (starting sometime after 10 minutes). After 40 mins of capturing, I've racked up over 4,000 dropped packets.

What's it all mean? Especially if the files appear to play fine?

I have seen this as well with my Canon (My Sony captures fine)

When I use HDVsplit I will capture the tape in its entirety first (with no preview or audio), then use the FILE scene capture utility in HDVsplit on the captured file (don't use the "sync audio" switch either). I have had no issues this way.

After dropping the files on the time line I noticed major gaps in the audio tracks of both the Canon and Sony files. One starting from a noticeable audio glitch on the original video... as though the glitch knocked HDV Split off course and it couldn't recover dropping audio for about 5 minutes. Then it came back.

So I'm recapturing the file using Sony Vegas to see if it rides through that glitch. So far, post glitch, it seems to not have dropped any frames...if that means anything.

So now I guess I'll do my taxes while I wait for these dang files to run again.... time for tapeless cameras.

Yeah... and they have their own set of head aches too.
