OT: DVD Bitrate Calculators Question

First of all, John Meyer and John Cline, thank you both for posting the links to the bitrate calculators. That was a big help!

My question is this: If most DVD players can't maintain the whatever to play DVDs encoded at a bitrate of 8,000 or higher, what good is it to have a DVD that has a VBR with 4,600 as the minimum, 9,300 as the average, and 9,300 as the maximum?

I can only assume I'm missing something here or I'm ignorant of a vital piece of information.

I HOPE the G05 media does well, as I've switched over to it and 8x burning from the 4x burning of the G04 media. So far, so good with about 100 of my disks out there on G05 stock.

BillyBoy says he's had some problems with Ritek stock. Of all the batches I've bought from Meritline and SuperMediaStore over the past couple of years packed in cakeboxes of 25, 50, and 100, I've only had one disk (the top disk of a 100-pack) that had obvious scratching on the bottom surface, out towards the perimeter. All the rest have had a bottom so clean and perfect each one was almost a work of art. I've gone through close to 500 at this point.
