OT: DVD Drives

I don 't understand this...I have had nearly 99% of ALL my -r discs work in drives. Far far less percent +r. In fact, I stopped using +r. Why are there no -r drives. I don't want a dual format drive, I have found no use for +r, the compatability was/is horrible. Having a client come back and say that the DVD did not work is unprofessional at best! Am I missing something here? I just want to buy a -r drive.

I have three Sony DRU 510 internals and four DRX 510 externals for duplication. I use ONLY verbatim 2X and 4X DVD-R. NEver had a peck of trouble with discs.

There are lots of excellent +/- burners out there. Two that come to mind are the Plextor 8X and the Pioneer 8X (can't remember their model numbers. The Sony 530 has a troubled reputation. Most vendors have gone to dual-format, so if you're looking for just a -R burner you might have to go to eBay (not a bad idea, actually).

I agree that my compatibility issues are behind me. I stick with Ritek G04 -R blanks, and never a problem.

I plan to move up to 8X when things are more stable regarding blanks and pricing.
