is there such a machine? one of my clients has finally relented and is willing to accept tc dubs on dvd, ONLY if he can get a jog shuttle player. NO, he doesn't want to use a pc - he's a truly creative luddite....

I don't have an answer, but will be interested in the response. I would LOVE a DVD player that could do all the smooth shuttle moves that can be done with a computer DVD software player. To be able to smoothly shuttle back and forth rather than just look at "I" frames would be a great joy. Better still would be the ability to play back at faster than 1x while still retaining audio. My software players can go at up to 2x with pitch-corrected audio. Very nice.

You might head over to the AVS Forum and look there. It is the place where all such things are thoroughly discussed. Here's a link to the DVD FAQ section:

I think it's Panasonic who have such a beast, complete with RS422 control. Rack mounted with a price to match.
Chapters can ease the pain on a conventional DVD player.

I have one of the very first DVD player/recorders. It's a Pioneer DVR-7000. The thing cost me $1350. It's at least 5 years old. It has a jog shuttle on both the unit and remote. It's definitely a great feature. I used this unit to make my DVD's when there weren't many desktop options available. The menu is awful compared to what we're used to now.

I don't really use this unit anymore. It won't playback DVD+R's (they didn't exist when they manufactured it). And the jog shuttle is no longer realiable. Move it to the left, to reverse, and it might instead fast forward it.

It was nice when it was new, but now it belongs in a DVD museum. =[

The Sony DVP-S570D if you can still find one.

The Samsung DVDHD950 also difficult to find.

The Panasonic DVD-RV31K(black) Or RV31S (silver)

The Samsung DVD P721M

The Sony DVP-S7700.

I have the silver version of the Panasonic. It works well and the unit is well built. I don't use the jog/shuttle much, but it does work.

The Sony units are generally reliable and may be more readily available.
