I have a suspicion that the problem is at the other end of the spectrum. I've looked at another person's almost identical problem. Neither have the 486 IR cut filter fitted to their cameras. The problem that shows up is always a shift in the reds and it seems pretty even accross the frame.
If I get a chance this weekend I'll take the filter off my camera, see if I can provoke the problem and then see if putting the filter back changes the problem in any way.

Whilst in my view the 486 filter is mandatory on the EX cameras they're not cheap and I'd truly hate to suggest someone buys one only to find it doesn't cure the problem.

I'd certainly welcome any suggestions as to what tests I should be doing and how to conduct them.

The other thing that has me baffled is the problem is noticeable in HD but it doesn't scale or doesn't appear to. Two pixels worth of red offset at 1080 seems to stay as two pixels worth of red offset in SD i.e. it looks much worse.

Have fun reading more horror stories about the EX1 and the reasons why not to buy.

Don't take it too personally. It's only a cam. Why should it actually work like other cams?

Have fun HDs. lol

Yes, I know it's a bad idea to encourage by responding to intentionally illogical postings, and that there isn't anything that can be sorted out. But..... the XDCAM EX is not the only HD camera. So while Fisheyes can logically conclude that he wouldn't buy an EX because of problems he's read about, it is illogical to extend that to all HD cameras. But I guess logic isn't his forte.

Not like the Red One has not had it's share of issues either but we have major motion pictures being shot with them. Region 9 used them along with EX1s as B cameras.
I could mention all the issues we've had with tape transports in SD cameras over the years but then again Fisheyes has such a distorted view of reality that any attempt at using logic would be lost to his anamorphic view of reality.

Don't fisheyes distort whatever it is they see?

Here's a link discussing the internal fan on the ex1:

Changeable Optics are Nothing if you don't have Optics to Change or have really good Optics that you're gonna bolt on.

Although I wish my editing experience were a bit Smoother with the XDCam EX media... I'm Very Happy with my EX1.

Amen to that. We got our PMW 350K last week. The stock lens seems quite nice. You want something better and well, you're looking at spending more than the camera cost. The 350 is probably the cheapest HD camera that it's feasible to change the lens on, it's really only 2/3" cameras that give you a good choice of optics but the price is quite a put off unless you're a full time shooter.
