OT: Favorite Render Walk activities..

Now what do YOU do while you're waiting for your latest render to get done?

The "Render Walk", or in many cases, the "render go to sleep and look at what you rendered the next morning" ... 'tis the topic of many fascinating discussions around the world, I'm sure :p

So - what do You do for your 'render walk' time?

(me, I'll read a book, design a site, or go sleep).

Anything that doesn't involve looking at the progress bar: lunch, dusting, cutting the grass, etc.

The render command is usually my last act on the computer before bed, or going to work. So I guess I sleep or, like yourself, build sites :)

Either go home, go to sleep, or open another instance of Vegas and start working. Or work on another machine.

Change a diaper and pretend not to be obsessed with my computer.

If you weren't obsessed with your computer, you might not need the diapers. Sheesh, Tom -- take a bathroom break once in awhile!!! ;^)

hey that's good ... not the diaper bit ... but right re opening another instance of vegas or use another machine ... I get concerned if I have more than 2 instances open that rendering to (or getting source files from) the same drives will slow down the primary render ... if I'm working on 2 projects at once .... hmm I should get more drives I guess.. need to figure out raid arrays and all that high tech stuff... now I've got 5 firewire drives on the pc and I think that's maxed it out? ah well..

render walk ... I should build a superfast dedicated render pc ... with fastest drives etc.. dedicated render pc .. using a new p4 w/asus m/b I built myself last year, it's fast.. given all the time I spend w/video I should get a higher end workstation though ... hey that's a good excuse to go to trade shows ... :p

I still have small children. If it weren't for these render walks I might never step away from the computer. Luckily there are and it forces me to take a break and think of someone else. I have heard of golf widows but Vegas Widows sounds kinda scary. So, if I want to keep these toys I had better remember to stop playing with them occasionally or it will be hard to justify the new firewire hard drives or even that new dedicated render machine that Ken is mentioning.

Sadly enough, I usually take that time to wash dishes when I'm rendering at home!

It's become a running joke in my household-- when my wife come home & the sink smells like bleach, she knows that I've gotten something done on the computer.

Smoke alot, cuss, wait, change channel after channel after channel, take a leak, smoke, sigh, then be amazed at the quality.

PDB:

You must do a lot of renders that are very short! :)

If I was "CENSORED" the whole time I was rendering, I wouldn't be able to walk for a week!

David: My wife tells me doing the dishes is theraputic. I bought her a dishwasher :)

Soccer (That's football to non-aussies), sleep, and work.

Ken -
I would have thought in your line it would be an opportunity to check your watchlist and see if the stochastic indicator lines have crossed for a quick buy/sell!

LOL!

naaa...It's just that I only work on Vegas in my spare time....Wife's now brought on a whole new incentive when she walks by and asks..."darling, is it render time yet?" And of course you can add/remove effects to adjust render times...So maybe I'm one of the few who prefer not to have hardware support for rendering...*Very big grin"...

Haven't been married long then, have you? ;)

You know you have a Vegas addiction when you open your eyes and suddenly realize that you've been dozing off in front of the compuer screen.

Time to join a VUA* group. "Hi! I'm Richard, and I did this really cool DVD last week! Who brought the DVD player?"
