OT: Film-making At It's Best on DVD

Many of you may be aware already, but I just saw that Alfred Hitchcock's Lifeboat is now available on DVD for the first time.

If you've never seen this film (this one of his lesser known films), then you are in for a rare treat! This is film-making at it's best. Somewhat of a departure for Hitchcock from his usual thriller, it's more of a study of human nature--a microcosm of society. This is real cinematic achievement because Hitchcock creates a unique, compelling story that takes place in a single enclosed space, a lifeboat, and that's no mean feat!

Hitchcock's introduction of the characters and his artistic manipulation of our sympathies is a text-book example of master story-telling.
