OT: Flash Player 9 & IE? Install how?

What gives? What's the "trick"? I have this working in FireFox - anybody got this installed with IE?

I go to the Adobe Flash Player download site - same as FF - and get into a cycle of needing to download - NOT the same as FF?

I bet you're talking about IE7?

It's a widely known issue (lots of posts on 'net about it - I've had it for ages) - some machines, it just will not install correctly. You can go through all sorts of 'fixes' (there are plenty of them) on the net, and they can work for the session you have it open. BUt on restart - back to same issue. It's one of the reasons why I switched to FF3.
There is a beta of flash10 http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10 that seems better, but I've not had much play-time with it to see if it's a complete cure

Thanks Ken - But I've got IE6. So this is happening with 7 huh? Maybe same holds for IE6 . . ?

Bottom line I want to see work that is created by colleagues and then put up on website and needing Flash9 to view.

Oh well, that'll be FireFox in future - uhuh?

Maybe I'm wrong, but this just goes to support my suspicion that there is no one media player that works on everyone's computer. Providing a choice is the answer.

Until computing is "standardized" like television (and it really isn't, i.e., PAL, NTSC, SECAM) this challenge will persist.

At work, I had 5 different workstations that refused to properly install Flash 9 player. After pulling my hair out for quite some time, I came across this fix - it worked perfectly: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=fb1634cb

It's not as scary as the bulletin may lead you to believe... Also, I did uninstall Flash first as noted if you follow the link in the first paragraph.

Aha! Another instance where permissions get all screwed up and need to be reset!

Some months ago I had written about this very thing, but manifested in a different way. You can see that thread here.

It's not a Flash issue, it's a Microsoft issue, but what mystifies me is how these permissions get fouled up in the first place.
