OT: (for Canadians) "Honest Ed" Mirvish passes on

From today's Toronto Star:

Edwin Mirvish, known universally as “Honest Ed”, died at 1:30 this morning at St. Michael’s Hospital at the age of 92.

Although he first came into the public eye as the merchant king whose Bloor St. discount store is still thriving after nearly 60 years, Mirvish will probably be remembered best as the man who created the most successful theatrical empire in Canadian history.

I remember him for selling blank Betamax tape way below the "standard" $25 CAD per tape back in my beginning days in video - circa 1980. Can't remember the actual price. Just remember it being a good deal and forcing other Toronto area retailers to drop their price.

Thanks Ed.

And Lady Bird Johnson died today as well. RIPA both of their souls.
