OT for John Cline-Intensity Pro Question

John,

I asked this question in another thread, but I think it got lost in the mix.

Are you using the BM Intensity Pro with Vegas? I have read several conflicting things online about whether it works or not. I am still on Vegas Pro 8, but will upgrade soon possibly.

Can you only monitor with it or can you capture from it as well?

Thanks for clearing up my confusion.

Dave,

In the past, I used the Intensity Pro for monitoring and it worked fine. These days, I mainly use the Intensity for capture using its own capture utility or Cineform HDLink if I want to capture straight to the Cineform codec.

You have three capture codec options: uncompressed YUV, MJPEG or Cineform (if you have NeoHD.) Vegas will handle all three.

John,

Thanks, that is what I needed to know.

Beware BlackMagic is a resource hog when used as an external monitor in Vegas 9. Memory use doubles just by the clicking the external monitor button.

John, I got a question since I'm also interested in the Intensity Pro. When you work with interlaced footage, does the preview show the interlacing correctly, or merging the two fields like when you use the Vegas secondary monitor preview option?

Does it output the timeline correctly regardless of any codec you're using, or does it have to be with their own codec? I remember having an Aurora Igniter card many years ago in a Mac, and the footage had to be in their own codec to play through the card, if I remember correctly. I think this was the case with other preview cards too.

And finally, FishEyes says that in his experience memory use doubles when he clicks the external monitor button. Is that your experience as well?

Does anyone know if the Aja stuff has the same hit in memory performance?

I've given up for now and just use my secondary monitor for near final viewing.

These cards are yesteryears news. The shuttle is coming out soon and video cards have two dvi and hdmi now so I give up on Intensity. It doesn't output progressive anyway.
