OT - forum logs me out on new computer

TeetimeNC wrote on 4/14/2010, 4:28 AM
I am posting this from my old computer because on my new computer the forum logs me out as soon as I go to forums. I used Windows Transfer to move all the settings from my old computer to my new one. I have verified that sonycreativesoftware.com is still in my trusted zone, and that all IE8 security settings are the same on both computers.

On the new computer, when I go to this forum page I am not automatically logged in. I select Log In and it automatically logs me in and transfers me to My Account. If I then select Forums it logs me back out.

In addition to checking settings, I have cleared caches in IE. Any ideas what to do to fix this?

Are you accepting cookies from this site?

Kelly, I am accepting cookies and it is using the cookie to automatically log me in when I click Log In. But when I select to go back to Forums I am no longer logged in. I just cleared all cache and cookies and logged in again - same result.

I can log in from my XP and Vista PCs, just not my new Windows 7 PC. As far as I can tell the IE settings are the same across all three. Any other ideas?

In Internet Options in the "delete settings" do you have "preserve favorites" checked? also you may need to add the forum to the favorite list first.

I have tried deleting with "preserve favorites" checked and not checked. Neither works. I have www.sonycreativesoftware.com as a favorite. But note that I was required to log in after deleting, and that created a cookie because now it logs me in automatically - it just doesn't persist when I go to forums.

What happens if you try going to the forums directly without first logging into the rest of Sony ?

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/Default.asp?

Can you make it remember that way of getting in ?

Mikey's idea is a good one. I just link to the forum and dont go thru the full Sony login.

When I do have to re-log in (after I clear cookies and files periodically) I do it on the forum page.

That's weird. Have you tried with Firefox, or Google Chrome? If you did, and it's still the same, then the problem might be in the website.

Mikey, I do link to the Vegas forum, but since it comes in as not logged in, I then click on log in. After I log in and return to forum, it loses the log in.

Sebaz, I am typing this from Firefox. It is working using settings, cookies imported from IE. So the problem would seem to be IE, or SCS with IE. But IE works fine on my XP and Vista PCs. I really want to get it working with IE if I can, but don't know what else to try. To reiterate, I have cleaned cached data and cookies, re-established the sonycreativesoftware cookie, but no cigar. Weird.

In case anyone else has this problem, it was solved by removing www.sonycreativesoftware.com from IE8's Trusted Sites zone.

Here is a good discussion on troubleshooting login problems in IE: http://blogs.msdn.com/ieinternals/archive/2009/09/11/Troubleshooting-Stored-Login-Problems-in-IE.aspx
