Seemed like a decent deal so I thought I would pass it along.
Unlike the majority of stores in New York City The Apple Store has a relatively good resellerrating.
Wondering if that's a typo? (it's about $3K everywhere else)
Or did they buy a bunch and now have to blow them out because one reviewer there said:
Don't spend a penny!
Par for the course with the hardcore religious fanatics who preordered Panny HVX200s because it had "4:2:2" color sampling (bwah-hah-hah because of its low-res CCDs) .
An unbelievable contribution; it's so wrong that no professional would write that. And it's most unlikely that a camera of this type, no matter how good, would be selected for a feature film (except maybe a no budget indie). And to say he'd used one in 3 films when it's no good does question his competence. Sure there are DPs working with HD who have bad mouthed HDV, but it's surprising how when they actually see it they say "not as bad as I expected". Mostly they just assume that HDV cannot be any good and they object in principle to it being considered high definition.
Just what is defined as a "film maker" these days?
Make a couple of short videos of kids on skateboard set to some awefull music out of Garage Band and you're a "film maker", yeah right. I did pinch that from someone else's post elsewhere but it sums it up nicely.
It is a pretty staggering comparison when you read articles written by those who do the real deal, a lifetime of working with 35mm and they're still learning how to get more out of it. And then a pubescent kid runs 5 minutes of tape through a camera and declares it useless.
Everyones entitled to their own beliefs when it comes to religion and politics but video cameras? Spare me.
And then a few weeks ago a couple of the younger generation comes in to hire some kit and asks me about getting 16mm scanned. And I ask what they're going to be shooting, well nothing special, they just want to run a roll through a real camera and learn the whole process for themselves before they attempt anything for real. There's hope yet.
WOW!?! Did Sony announce a price cut? I just checked and B&H has it at $2999. I think I'm going to order this now before Apple "fixes" the price. I just bid for a job that will require a good 16x9 picture--so maybe the video gods are looking out for me.
I called the Apple Store and confirmed that price is indeed $1995 and that that it does carry a USA warranty. The rep even double-checked for me. Wow what a good price! I'm sorely tempted to get another one but I'm still trying to rationalize my need for another. I'm sure if I try hard enough I will...
No PAL, just NTSC. I went ahead and got another one. I couldn't resist the price. Even if I ended up selling it after a while there shouldn't be much if any loss. $2135.67 after tax. Free shipping.
Neither could I. I had to grab one. $2,095.75 after shipping!
Do you think there is going to be a major price cut from Sony on this? New model at NAB? I can't see how Apple has it for $1000 less than other places.
Um, anyone want to buy a 5 year old Canon XL1, with Porta Brace bag, black mist filter, a three batteries?
This is getting very interesting! Very quickly . . . those who "know" what's going on must be stuffing their fists so far into their mouths it must be really hurting - very, very interesting indeed.
My invoice said: " Estimated ship: Within 24 hours Delivered within 5 business days after shipping"
I posted a few days ago about the new Sony HDR-HC3 camcorder that can shoot a burst of frames to memory then writes to tape. It can do something like 120 frames per second for 3 seconds. Maybe there is some other camcorders coming out. Anyone know? (while I still have time to cancel my order on the Fx1)
I dont think there will be an FX2 at NAB---for several reasons:
1. Why would Apple be the only one offerring it at that price.
2. Sony has already announced some new cameras---and not the FX2
This is obviously a major faux pas by Apple. I have seen this happen in the past where Dell had the Canon L series lens 70-200mm IS for about 700 bucks under the price of anyone else. They realized they made the mistake and ended up fufilling the orders----but it took 9 months for some people to receive their lens.
Oh, one more thing, I ordered the FX from Apple before the ship date was changed----I figured that even if I dont use it, I could sell it for a profit on Ebay. Since ordering it I have decided that I will most likely sell it (my partner isn't for this purchase) and thus I am going to offer the camera to anyone in this August forum for 2143.15 (the cost of the unit plus tax) and whatever shipping costs are to their front door. (You pick the shipping method--I wont mark up the shipping cost) Lets just say that I have learned so much from this forum that it is my way of giving back to the community.
Just email me at rextilleon@gmail if you are interested. I will keep a list and as soon as I hear that the camera has been shipped, I will let the person know. If for some reason, I'm on the six to eight week wait list (I dont think I am), I will let you know.
A very generous thing to do; good on ya, as our friends down under would say.
I just have to believe that it's a typo. The only question is how Apple will handle the error. A thousand dollars per is a huge hit to absorb. My guess is that they will issue a sincere apology and cancel the orders.
On the other hand, amazing deals do pop up--I bought my new Seagate 300GB drive for $69 last month.
When I see it at B&H and some of the other major players, I will believe that they are getting rid of stock---so far, the price hasn't turned up anywhere else.

That's my point, it's not like Apple is the first on the block with pricing prosumer HDV cams. I'd imagine your B&H's would be first to show low prices since their market is very competitive.
