I didn't actually check the start date. I have been googling info on ISPs in my area the last few days and it only came up today, so I assumed it was fairly new, but I did notice the 2007 date. I hadn't heard about it and I found it entertaining anyway.

For the last few years. Google has been buying up large tracts of land all over the U.S but I think especially in the midwest & southern states. The supposition has been that they're preparing to set up huge data centers that would, among other things, provide low or no cost internet service to, well, anyone who wanted it.

That service is no longer available. There was a big splash when it was first released and Google were flushed with success but It went down the pan soon after .
