OT: Got a new job, thanks to the forum!

Just wanted to let those who helped without knowing that I got a job as a production technician at a local dupe house, and much thanks to those who helped. How, you ask? There has been much talk about standards and conversions on this forum. NTSC, PAL, SECAM, ETC... During my interview I was asked about the differences between NTSC and PAL, and I proceeded to enter into a monologue about differences in resolution, frame rates, sync based on electrical frequency, and a few other nuances I learned from those of you who contribute to the forums, and the very good Vegas 4 HELP section. I have never seen jaws drop like I did that day. So thank you from the bottom of my heart. I learned things from you that schools just don't teach, and to those of you that want to learn something that will help you in the real world, read the stuff from Spot, Grazie, Cheno, JetDV, and even crotchety old Jay. I'd tell him to pixx off, but he knows his stuff. Thanks guys. I'm finally proud to say what I do for a living.

You lucky dog. A few more years and I may be able to show people to their seats in a theatre. Seriously, that's cool.

You told them all that and they believed you???
No, really, great going! Just don't tell them about the forum, yet.

Congrats to you! It's always a wonderful feeling when you can find income derived from doing what you love most. Glad to have been a miniscule part of your new position. In honesty, that's the best part of being a moderator or part of an active community; hearing how you may have helped in any small or large way.

Awesome!

I've certainly gotten jobs because of Vegas (how else could I whip up a quick demo reel?), but never because of the forum I'm afraid!

That being said... should ANYONE ever hit me up for a production assistant job & they know Vegas and/or the forum, I certainly would take them more seriously than anyone else right off the bat!

". . . and even crotchety old Jay."

LOL -- That's the best thing I've read here in a long time. I can't imagine anything that I've said that would be of any real benefit, especially in helping anyone land a job.

CONGRATS!

Jay (as in crotchety old...)

Speaking of jobs available...
there's an opening for a full time video editor in Boca Raton, FL.

Good pay - (around $40k/year) - but... (sorry, it;s not for me) - must know AVID (preferrably the Adreniline), because that's what they've got.

If you know someone who can use this work, it's a good gig.
